Small breakfast room offering a basic continental breakfast will set you up for the day and should you fancy a spot of shopping then what better location to be than in the heart of it all. A good budget option that remains one of our top sellers.

our opinion: More than meets the eye, this lovely hotel has striking internal features. You'll be amazed by the strong mix of Portuguese design blended with heavy Arabic influences to bring you a unique interior that is both warm and inviting but also highly original. Alfamar Algarve Gardens Apartments, Algarve
our opinion: The charming and simple Apartments Alfama Algarve Gardens are set in their own peaceful and decorative gardens and are surrounded by a large area of pine trees. Next to the Apartments which is separate but forms part of the Alfamar Beah hotel , is located the endless sandy beach of Praia da Falésia, reason enough to base yourself here and catch some superb sun and enjoy a magnificent beach. The rooms are simply furnished and well maintained and feature a range of apartment sizes. A good value option.

Aparthotel Olhos d'Agua, Algarve
our opinion: This lovely apart hotel sits in the quieter part of Albufeira known as Olhos d'Agua. With it's own little resort centre and beach, Olhos d'Agua has it's own soul yet is also nice n' easy to access the many nearby facilities of bustling Albufeira. The standards here are high. Each unit has been well appointed and furnished to a high level with good self catering facilities. The pool is secluded yet an added bonus is the alternative pool option at the neighbouring Ocenaus which is also available for guests to use. A great little authentic restaurant serves up some great local dishes.

Balaia Sol Aparthotel, Algarve
our opinion: If you are looking for a small family run, charm property, then the Balaia Sol may just be what you are looking for. Built in a traditional Algarvean country style and featuring a range of studios and apartments in a part of the resort where you can relax and enjoy the peaceful surroundings yet know that you are close enough to lively Albufeira if you want to be. The gardens are especially wonderful in the spring when the bougainvillea bursts a purple fusion and the fragrance fills the air. Balaia Sol sits at the North side of Quinta Balaia and is just under 2km from the wonderful beach at Santa Eulalia. A wealth of restaurants and bars can be found in nearby Oura / Montechoro. Though if we are any judge of character we are sure you'll be more tempted to simply laze by the tempting pool.

our opinion: Bursting with character, Casablanca Inn is a charming little hotel that offers a fusion of Algarvian style and hospitality with more than a hint of Moorish undertones. The warm feeling is captured on entering the cosy reception that leads directly into the popular bar area. Ornate tile work, subdued lighting and local décor set the scene whilst the rooms offer charming simplicity with great detail in the design. Situated in the residential area of this pleasant resort, the main beach is just a short stroll away. The town is less than 200m away.

our opinion: The D' Aldea Hotel Algarve is a charming and popular hotel with lots of character and a range of facilities. Attractive pool area and sun terrace set within gardens to the rear of the hotel. Restaurant offers choice of buffet or waiter service. Rooms are simple, in a traditional style with balconies or terrace looking towards the street or pool. Surrounded by shops, bars and restaurants the hotel is located a 10 minute downhill walk to the sandy Oura beach. During summer months there is also plenty of lively nightlife in the area.

our opinion: Great little character hotel slap bang in the heart of this buzzing little town. Globo offers modern interiors throughout with newly renovated and clean rooms and offering a great panoramic restaurant and bar where you can enjoy some terrific sunsets. The greatest attribute of all however is being in the centre of Portimao itself, a true and traditional Portuguese town bursting with colour, sights and sounds and you will surely feel a part of it by staying in the Globo. Close to Praia De Rocha and other neighboring resorts, Globo's location for easy all round access is second to none.

our opinion: Gorgeous apartments set within the charming resort of Olhos d'Agua, giving you the best of both worlds as many may prefer to stay in a quieter area yet have the closeness of Albufeira at their finger tips. The apartments are very well furnished and offer a spacious option for families and friends. There are two large pools, one of which is the large indoor heated pool which is just perfect for the winter months. A Lovely pool side bar is perfect for lazy days by the pool whilst a newly refurbished cocktail bar lies within the main building. A very good property worth looking at.

our opinion: Quarteira Sol has undergone a dramatic transformation during 2008 to ensure that is now one of the resort's leading hotels, looking trendy yet still offering that same level of comfort, service and value that is was always known for. Modern and Traditional blend together here to offer a dramatic swing of moods and ambience from one part of the hotel to another. Yet the biggest asset to staying here is the location, with the beach on your door step, Vilamoura just 2m away and Falesia 3km away. You'll also be amazed at just what good value this hotel is.

our opinion: Super little hotel - superbly placed in the very heart of Praia da Rocha. From the Santa Caterina Hotel you can walk the strip and have many facilities right at your finger tips with a wealth of restaurants, bars and shops to choose from. A great value restaurant within the hotel offers a range of local dishes, best served with a local wine, naturally. A popular bar serves well priced drinks and the rooms are simple yet clean and offer land view or sea view rooms. The beach is just a stones' throw from your hotel so who needs a pool when the beach is this close!

our opinion: One of the original hotels of Albufeira with friendly, happy-to-help staff. Superb hilltop location overlooking the wide panorama of the bay and offering magnificent views of the Algarve coast. It is a 10 minute downhill walk to the centre of town. Most rooms have a balcony and are of a good standard. Facilities include outdoor pool and sun terrace, jacuzzi, health club and gym. Charming hotel with interesting original features.

our opinion: For fantastic value and eye catching offers the Monaco Hotel Faro is the perfect choice. Set in the small and pretty residential village of Montenegro and just under 2km from the airport, 3km from the beach and 2km from the centre of Faro, this hotel could not be in a better location. Modern style hotel with fairly spacious rooms and tropical appeal. An Outdoor pool, open year round, set in a pretty well kept garden with space for lounging. Poolside snack bar in summer months. Comfortable lounge bar and lovely restaurant offering a la carte selection, having stayed there, we know you’ll be pleased with the overall standards and refreshing contemporary look following a major refurbishment.

our opinion: The splendid Quinta do Mar da Luz is a real gem and one which our guests come back to year after year. Imagine an idyllic retreat, nestled amidst a verdant surround, peaceful and charming and with a very relaxed and informal feel, this is the Quinta do Mar da Luz. A stunning mix of rooms, studios and one bedroom apartments in the gorgeous setting of Praia Da Luz and close to the pretty fishing village of Burgau. The rooms are a blend of old style charm with modern day comforts, overlooking tropical gardens. There are 3 pool areas, and a lovely character gazebo cabin where buffet breakfast is taken either indoors or on the garden deck terrace over looking the pretty gardens. Close to the stunning beaches of Praia Da Luz, Lagos and Burgau, this is the perfect setting for that special "Holiday a deux" The service is great, it is an original hotel quite unlike any other in the area and has a real sense of vitality and well being about it. Highly recommended.

our opinion: The Vila Gale Cerro Alagoa Hotel Algarve is centrally located with a choice of shops and bars within close proximity. The nearest beach is only 750m away. It is a popular, modern hotel whose rooms offer a superior level of comfort, all with balcony and overlooking either the gardens pool or ocean. Great facilities include outside pool and sun terrace, indoor jungle landscaped pool, jacuzzi, sauna and gym. Hotel also has a large restaurant, 'Dog and Duck' pub and nightly entertainment. Everything you need is here at the Algarve's well established Cerro Alagoa. A popular choice with all guests at any time of the year.

Alfamar Beach and Sport Resort Hotel, Algarve
our opinion: “Slap bang” on the fabulous Falesia Beach, the Alfamar Beach and Sport Resort Hotel Algarve is perfectly situated amid gardens and pine forest with an enviable footpath at the end of the pool / gardens leading directly onto the golden beach of Falesia, the Alfamar boasts a peaceful location combined with numerous facilities. There is a spacious entrance hall with piano and an adjoining evening lounge bar, and a choice of restaurants. The large outdoor pool with pool bar is surrounded by gardens and terraces that lead down to the beach via a wooden walkway. The indoor pool and health club is a real must and offers badminton, squash, tennis and many other sports facilities. Bedrooms follow clean, modern lines with blue and white decor and balcony or terrace with views of the surrounding area or the sweeping ocean. Around 2km (1.2 miles) to the village of Acoteias and there is a local bus service from the entrance, to Albufeira centre, This is a great choice for active couples, families and those in search of a hotel with good leisure facilities.

our opinion: Tucked away in the hillside, perfectly situated amidst the verdant surroundings of the pretty village of Carvoeiro is the Cristal. This charming hotel offers a simple sophistication that is truly refreshing. From the bright uplifting rooms with private terrace or balcony, to the bright and inviting public areas, the Cristal offers you the chance to relax and enjoy a natural style of holiday. Vale de Centeanes is just 1700m down hill, whilst both Vale de Covo and Carvoeiro beaches are all within easy walking distance. A friendly bar and restaurant combined with a popular pool make this hotel a great choice to capture a piece of real Portuguese hospitality.

our opinion: Located in the quieter part of Albufeira known as Sesmarias some 3km away and akin to a small self contained resort in its own right, the Baia Grande is a fairly new arrival to the Algarve hotel scene yet has rapidly built a reputation on high standards and good service. Numerous facilities are on offer here and its within close proximity to Faro airport making this good, quick and easy for a quick weekend break. There are a good choice of restaurants here for you to choose from whilst the tempting pool area makes a great place to laze away the days, highly recommended.

our opinion: The superb location of the Boa Vista in the elevated quarter of Albufeira's old town, enables the hotel to boast some of the areas best views. Set amidst a sugar effect of whitewashed houses and terracotta rooftops it's a real gem set within the resort. Boa Vista has a pleasant lobby / lounge which has relaxing sofas and loungers with panoramic balconies on which to sit and enjoy a drink whilst reading a good book. The hotel boasts a distinct air of sophistication and has a high repeat factor. The stylish restaurant offers a classic but luxurious décor with panoramic views whilst rooms are well appointed and well maintained. The hotel's design makes it a very cosy and warm choice with dark woods, Indian chests, Mexican pottery and great attention to detail. A good choice.

our opinion: Carvoeiro Sol offers the perfect combination of location, service and quality. As an established hotel within the bustling resort of Carvoeiro the Sol has become a popular choice. Set in the heart of the village, its distinctive white and blue look gives it a distinct Mediterranean flavour. It's a stones throw from the many shops, bars and restaurants whilst the sea is directly in front just 25m away. Great local dishes should be sampled at "Jardim Do Sol" the hotel's own restaurant whilst a pretty terrace and great pool location further add to the overall enjoyment of this hotel.

our opinion: Welcoming hotel offering a good standard of comfort and service. Located in the centre of Faro, right next to the marina. Roof top restaurant with great views across the marina and old town, as well as a street side cafe along the marina's promenade. Other facilities include an outdoor pool with ample terrace and bar. Most rooms have balconies. Faro beach is 8km away and can be reached by local bus.

our opinion: Hotel Faro is one of the newest additions to the Faro family of hotels and has become known for its originality in both contemporary style and décor. Centrally located just a stones throw from the marina and the city's historical centre and overlooking the colourful marina, its ideally placed to offer you the perfect break. With a number of value added extras making your stay just that little bit more special. The large reception is very funky, having recently been renovated and quite original, whilst the restaurant offers superb a la carte dining and is really popular with the local clientele. There is also a bar and terrace overlooking "Ria Formosa" and the historical centre. Don't forget Faro's superb dunes and sandy beaches easily accessible with the hotel's free offer on selected dates.

our opinion: Holiday Inn Algarve was the first hotel to have been built in this sleepy fishing village which led the way to developing Armacao to its current lively form. Having under gone a completely new face lift, the hotel now offers you a Portuguese restaurant called "Por Do Sol" famed for its local dishes whilst by complete contrast is the "Raj at Garbe" for great Indian dishes. Built on the sea front, Armacao has one of the finest beaches along the coastline. Two bars,an outdoor pool (heated in winter time), beauty and hair salons and a shop all make this a great choice.

our opinion: The Monte do Casal Hotel Algarve is a stunning find, hidden from the crowds and for those that appreciate something a little special. Originally an 18th century country house that has been restored to a splendid haven for adults only to enjoy sumptuous surroundings, fine gastronomic delights to Michelin standards and the most stimulating treatments in the idyllic spa. A unique feature is your personal maid who delivers your breakfast to be enjoyed on the lovely terrace. Officially rated 4 stars, we consider this to be 5 star quality on several levels.

our opinion: This striking property has to be one of the most unusual in all of Praia de Rocha. With hints of Moorish undertones, this lovely aparthotel offers a quality accommodation for people looking for a superb beach front location and good standards. The well appointed rooms offer small kitchenettes for your convenience, whilst a restaurant and bar on site are always a hit with the guests. A maintained garden and stunning pool area further add to the overall appeal of the Oriental. A pretty indoor courtyard which is overlooked by some of the rooms on selected floors also make this quite a unique feature. All of the rooms are lucky enough to have a partial or side sea view.

Vila Gale Albacora Hotel, Algarve
our opinion: This exquisite hotel overlooking the river Formosa is simply charming and perfect for soaking up the sun by the picturesque pool. Located in the area of Tavira it's a wonderful choice for those who want to explore beyond their chosen resort. Spain is just 25km away whilst Faro airport is just under 30km. Built in a traditional Algarvean style, the property oozes character and a subtle sophistication. Rooms are tastefully furnished, well appointed and decorated in refreshing sunflower yellow. Great facilities and a novel way of accessing the beach and Tavira by way of the hotel's own boat sailing down the river - simply divine.

our opinion: The impressive Vila Gale Tavira Hotel Algarve mixes modern design and architecture with Moorish influences, notably in the mosaic flooring of the lobby. The style carries through the whole hotel ensuring that the feel is a romantic and intimate ambience, never giving the impression of its real size and numerous facilities. Bedrooms are well equipped and furnished to a high standard with a balcony or terrace. The large outdoor pool is in the centre of the hotel and there is also an attractive circular indoor pool for those colder days. The hotel offers hearty buffet restaurant, grill, bars, and health club and enjoys a wonderful location.

our opinion: Set in a luscious vast pine forest, this hotel is the ideal place to relax from the pressures of the city. The swimming pool is surrounded by palm trees and various other plants for privacy. The rooms all have terraces and are spacious with an Arabian style of architecture. The hotel has its own private beach if you want to relax by the sea. All in all an ideal hotel for a proper well deserved break.

our opinion: Absolutely fabulous! Brand new and highly impressive aparthotel situated in Praia da Falesia and just 800m from the beach. These have been designed to high specifications and offer a range of very well appointed studio suites and apartments for those in search of quality. The Impressive marble reception gives way to a breakfast room, lounge area and bar, whilst the pools and their surround are pure temptation. Underground secure parking for residents adds a further feature. This really is an aparthotel worth a second look!

our opinion: Vila Gale Lagos Hotel is a brand new luxury resort on Meia Praia beach, this hotel succeeds in merging a contemporary design and layout with a wide array of the latest modern facilities. Within easy walking distance of the centre of the charming former fishing village of Lagos, Hotel Vila Galé Lagos makes a luxurious and stylish base for an active and luxurious Algarve break.
