our opinion: A charming 2 star hotel ideally suited for those wishing to visit the stunning Vatican City and St. Peters. It is also well linked with both metro and bus to other central attractions. It does not have its own breakfast room (the Adriatic Hotel Rome is on a 'room only' basis), but the standard of the bedrooms is good for a hotel of this category, in a traditional style and regularly redecorated. Reception is on the first floor and the hotel also has the advantage of a roof garden where guests can relax and enjoy the great views over the city.

our opinion: A great new addition to our 2-star hotels in Rome. The Baltic Hotel Rome is professionally run, taking pride in the service offered to guests and the attention given to the maintenance of its 23 rooms. The bedrooms are actually spread between two adjacent buildings, but both make up part of the hotel. Bedrooms are simple but well appointed, decorated in a traditional Mediterranean style. All bedrooms are air-conditioned. Being located not too far from the station, the hotel is ideal as a base for exploring the city.

our opinion: A great little hotel in a very convenient location in the centre of Rome. A short walk from Termini but also close to the shopping street Via XX Settembre, the Bianca Hotel Rome offers simple but well maintained rooms and a friendly service. Being located on the 3rd to 7th floor of a typical Roman building means they also enjoy fantastic views over Rome from the top floor. A very pleasant hotel for its category.

our opinion: Under the same management as the Hotel Parker, the Espana is newly renovated in an elegant, refreshing style. Bedrooms at the Espana Hotel Rome are decorated in deep reds with pine furniture creating a warm and welcoming ambience. The breakfast room also is charming and cosy, retaining elements from the original palazzo. Located in a quiet area, close to Porta Maggiore, this delightful two star offers a high standard of accommodation for a very reasonable price.

our opinion: Centrally located just round the corner from Piazza Repubblica and 5 mins walk from the main station, the Flower Garden Hotel Rome is a good base from which to explore Rome. Straight forward, basic accommodation and informal ambience. Official rating 3 star. New breakfast courtyard. Picture is of a large family room.

our opinion: Located close to the famous piece of architecture by Michelangelo 'Porta Pia', the hotel Galeno is in a quiet area away from the hectic centre of Rome but very accessible either on foot or by bus to all of the main attractions. With a small number of rooms the Galeno Hotel Rome, on the ground floor of a residential building, offers a friendly and intimate atmosphere in cosy surroundings. Bedrooms are simple and well maintained, all with air-conditioning. A particularly nice feature is their courtyard garden where guests can take breakfast in the spring and summer months.

our opinion: Cosy twenty room hotel well located in historic Rome, by the Basilica of S. Maria Maggiore, which boasts a busy square with many shops and cafes. Easy to reach from the station it is a great base for those looking to explore Rome. The Giubileo Hotel Rome offers unpretentious accommodation for those on a budget, which is nevertheless comfortable and welcoming.

Bedrooms at the Parker Hotel Rome are simple but offer adequate comfort and are decorated in a traditional style, in deep colours, the breakfast room is in a delightful rustic style. With only 20 rooms in total, the hotel offers an intimate and friendly stay and it well located for those wishing to explore the city, being a short walk from the station.

our opinion: Informal hotel located on the 4th and 5th floors of a 19th century building in the historic centre of Rome, just a few paces from Termini Station. With just 34 rooms, the Scott House Hotel Rome offers an intimate and friendly stay and staff are happy to help with advice on what to do and see during your visit. The rooms and corridors have been decorated in bright colours which give them a welcoming and cheery atmosphere. Scott House offers guests unfussy accommodation with a relaxed ambience.

our opinion: Under new Chinese management since early 2005, this is a traditional hotel with old antique furnishings, in a convenient location in Rome's historic centre within easy walking distance of most attractions. Rooms are simple but quite spacious for Rome standards owing to the historic palazzo in which the hotel is located. We have down-graded this hotel to a 2 star superior (officially 3 star) as we feel bathrooms are in need of some renovation. The D'Este Hotel Rome also boasts a conservatory which serves as the breakfast room and garden terrace.

our opinion: A very friendly welcome awaits guests who choose to stay at this central Rome hotel. Located on the first and second floor of a residential building, the Esquilino Hotel Rome is owned by Francesco, who prides himself in speaking perfect English and loves to chat to his guests, offering them all the city information they could require. Rooms are quite simple with basic amenities, but are clean and well maintained. Centrally located, overlooking the Basilica of S. Maria Maggiore, the hotel offers an easy walk to the Colosseum and main shopping streets such as Via Nazionale. Officially a 3 star, this is a comfortable palce to stay for those who are on a budget but enjoy being in the heart of the city.

our opinion: This delightful hotel prides itself in the very high standard of the accommodation it provides guests. In fact the owners have chosen to maintain their 2 star category despite the fact that rooms are of a higher standard than one would expect from a hotel of this class. Bedrooms at the Taormina Hotel Rome are mostly in a traditional, elegant style but there are also some rooms which have a more modern, but still very stylish décor. Guests can look forward to a warm welcome in this hotel, which has a great location - close enough to the station but also close to the pleasant park area of Traiano, and ancient Roman ruins such as the Colosseum, Temple of Minerva and Porta Maggiore.

our opinion: Small and intimate with only 12 rooms, the Teti Hotel Rome is an above average 2 star hotel, hence our superior rating. Totally renovated throughout offering simple but modern functional surroundings. The hotel is situated in a central position, only a few minutes walk from the main station. Air Conditioning at extra charge (13 Euros/day payable direct to hotel)and most of the rooms have Cable TV. Hotel is happy to hold luggage in hotel at no extra charge should clients wish to continue to explore the city after the 11am check-out on their final day

our opinion: Very good 3 star hotel, which has been completely renovated in a tasteful classic modern style, with all the necessary modern amenities. The small Amalfi Hotel Rome offers an intimate and cosy atmosphere and a high standard of accommodation for a hotel of its category, though some rooms are on the small side. Good bustling location near the Basilica of S. Maria Maggiore and within walking distance of the Colosseum.

our opinion: A family owned and run hotel with a friendly atmosphere. 8km from the centre of Rome but offering peaceful surroundings, easy connection to the metro and more importantly for those driving, it is very easily accessed from the main ring road. The welcoming hospitality means that the Aurora Garden Hotel Rome enjoys much return-business - and the family dog "Derby" regularly wins the hearts of the guests! Bedrooms and public areas are traditionally decorated in a simple style. The hotel also boasts a delightful garden. A good choice for those wishing to enjoy peaceful surroundings and especially for those who will hire a car to explore the area.

our opinion: This homely hotel has 40 rooms on 3 floors of a residential building. The Cambridge Hotel Rome has recently been upgraded from 2 star to 3 star category following an ongoing renovation of the rooms. The rooms are well maintained, decorated in varying styles, some with murals or fresco ceilings, and all with modern bathrooms. Well located, a couple of minutes to the quieter side of Termini station, hence an easy walk to Rome's historical centre.

our opinion: A unique and characteristic hotel, with simple interior decor verging on what you would expect of a castle. The Colosseum Hotel Rome has a medieval banquet style breakfast room and large downstairs lounging area. Quiet location, close to Colosseum, Forum and some of Rome's attractive parks. Enviable roof garden with panoramic views across Rome's skyline.

our opinion: Located in the centre of Rome, the Donatello Hotel Rome is 10 mins walk from Termini station. Small and intimate family run hotel on 3 floors. Cosy, unpretentious accommodation but with a warm welcome. The rooms boast new bathrooms. Popular cellar restaurant serving breakfast only.

our opinion: Located in the heart of Rome, just by Santa Maria Maggiore, Rome's famous Basilica, and within easy walking distance of Via Veneto, and the Colosseum. Small and cosy hotel with breakfast terrace up on the roof. The Doria Hotel Rome has recently renovated all its rooms in an elegant style with tasteful shades of green and yellow. Home to what must be one of the smallest lifts in the country, and some rooms can be quite compact, but quaint and appealing none-the-less.

our opinion: This charming hotel is located in a quiet area of historic Rome, just north of Termini station but in walking distance of the famous Via Veneto and the Villa Borghese. Alternatively in less than a ten minute bus ride, guests can reach Piazzas Barberini and Repubblica or the Spanish steps. The Fiume Hotel Rome is decorated in a classic traditional style designed to make guests feel at home. In the summer, guests can make use of the roof terrace.

our opinion: This hotel offers comfortable accommodation in spacious rooms, which vary in style - some more traditional than others. All areas are well maintained, including the bedrooms, each of which has a balcony. The Giardino D'Europa Hotel Rome also has the benefit of a pleasant garden area. The location is ideal for those arriving into Ciampino airport, especially as the hotel also provides airport pick- ups on request (to be arranged with hotel in advance), and also has car parking.
within 20 minutes walk: The hotel is located in a residential & business area so there is little in walking distance, however they offer a free pick up & drop off service from the nearest tube at the beginning and end of the day, as it is not possible to reach the station on foot.

our opinion: Located in the centre of Rome a couple of minutes away from Termini station and close to the Teatro dell'Opera, this hotel is ideally located to access all parts of the city. The Giglio dell'Opera Hotel Rome is decorated in quite a traditional style offering cosy surroundings including a relaxing lounge area. Bedrooms are in a simple classic style. Some bathrooms are in need of refurbishment.

our opinion: An old, traditional Roman hotel under Chinese management that has been recently renovated throughout. Many of the original features of the building have been maintained and restored such as the wide staircase up to the first floor. Rooms at the Impero Hotel Rome are in a modernised traditional style. our opinion: A well established hotel which offers a comfortable stay in its 41 traditionally decorated bedrooms. Guests at the Mach2 Hotel Rome have the advantage of free parking & a shuttle service is also operated to and from the airport and to & from the city centre (at extra cost).

our opinion: Located just outside the boundaries of Ciampino, this is an ideal hotel for early or late arrivals or departures from this Rome airport. The Palacavicchi Hotel Rome is a motel-style hotel, with all bedrooms in ground-level structures with a front and rear entrance. Bedrooms are simply furnished but are comfortable, offering adequate facilities and are all air conditioned. The hotel conveniently offers a shuttle service which will transport guests to and from the airport.
within 20 minutes walk: This is an airport hotel so there is little in walking distance.

our opinion: Small and intimate hotel, 2 minutes walk to the quieter side of Termini station. Homely unpretentious rooms, well looked after, offering a welcoming ambience. The entrance and reception area of the Piemonte Hotel Rome have been renovated recently, adding to the hotel's professional service. Historic and cultural Roman sites within easy walking distance, hence a good tourist base.

our opinion: Fully renovated hotel located in an upmarket residential area of Rome with great public transport access direct to the centre. Piazza Bologna underground is 300m away (3 stops to Termini, 5 stops to Colosseum) and buses go from outside the Santa Costanza Hotel Rome direct to Termini or Piazza Barberini. Well maintained hotel, providing every comfort, professional service and a relaxing ambience.
within 20 minutes walk: Catacombe of S. Costanza, Villa Torlonia.

our opinion: Recently opened hotel on the outskirts of the centre of Rome and close to the Vatican City. Offering a good standard of service with airy, well appointed bedrooms and pleasant public areas including a terrace. The location is ideal for those travelling by car and wishing to leave it at the hotel whilst they explore the city because they provide spacious private parking. The Scheppers Hotel Rome also provides a free shuttle bus twice in the morning and twice in the evening to and from St Peters square (where a metro or bus can easily be taken in to the centre).

our opinion: This elegant, family run hotel achieved its 3 star category this year, after a thorough renovation programme. The result is a stylish, welcoming reception hall and well appointed bedrooms which have been elegantly decorated in a traditional style. Breakfast is served in the bright and spacious breakfast room which has also been refurbished. The location of the Tempio di Pallade Hotel Rome is convenient as within ten to fifteen minutes, guests can reach the entrance to the main station and in the other direction they can reach the famous Collosseum.

our opinion: This is a small, intimate establishment comprising of 44 rooms and its situation on a quiet street is quite rare considering its centrality in the heart of Rome, and its convenient distance from the main station. The Virgilio Hotel Rome offers elegant public areas decorated in a traditional and classical style including a cosy lounge and bar area. Rooms vary in size and style but generally are well maintained, although some are in need of refurbishment.

our opinion: A modern hotel in a quiet residential area on the west side of the Vatican, the hotel is just 3 metro stops from the Vatican itself and just a 10 minute ride to the Spanish Steps. Rooms and public areas are decorated in a simple, classic style and have been recently refurbished. The Waldorf Hotel Rome prides itself on offering comfort and value and is ideal for those looking to stay within easy reach of the centre but out of the hustle and bustle of central Rome. It is also convenient for those arriving by car as from its location there is easy access to the ring road and motorway exits.

our opinion: The Amalia Hotel in Rome is located in the up-market Prata district of central Rome - to the west side of river Tevere and only a few minutes walk from the Vatican. The Amalia offers a good level of comfort, with superior rooms also available on request. It has classic décor and modern bathrooms with a residential style entrance and reception on ground floor. There is a breakfast room on the second floor and the hotel has lift access to all 5 floors. This is a good value hotel in the city of Rome.
