 HotelConnect environmental & ethical policy

We at HotelConnect understand that everyone needs to do their part to minimise their impact on the environment and work in an ethical way.

1. We have a Green Team, with an appointed “Green Guardian” who have thus far implemented the following changes to reduce HotelConnect’s energy and water consumption:
We have switched from using disposable cups to reusable plastic cups.
We’ve set up recycling stations around the office for everything from plastic bags to office paper and cardboard.
Plants have been installed to help offset personal carbon emissions in the office.
We’ve got into the habit of switching everything off before we go home – no more standby for us!
We do not provide parking for all our staff at our head office – this encourages people to car share/use public transport.
We’ve chosen to support WWF – the wildlife charity – with our fundraising efforts and we have already received an award from the Charities Trust recognising our efforts to promote payroll giving.
We contribute £2 for every £1 of charitable donations made by staff.
From the 1st to the 7th February 2008 we donated £1 to our chosen charity for every booking. Plus we had a coffee morning with lots of lovely treats. Through these efforts we raised over £3,000.
We only print emails if they’re really needed and we try to double side print where possible, reusing old paper. We encourage our contacts, suppliers and partners to do likewise.
We get our milk delivered by our lovely milkman, rather than driving to the shops, as he has a wonderfully environmentally-friendly electric motor vehicle and takes away the glass bottles when we've finished with them and re-uses them! Magic!
We use energy saving light bulbs.
We send our old printer cartridges to Marie Curie Cancer who raise funds through recycling them.
2. What we hope to do in the future:
Donate old office equipment to charity/reuse schemes.
Install solar panels.
Choose online over face-to-face meetings to cut down on travel.
Make donations to offset our necessary business travel.
Look at attaining ISO140001 or ISO9001.
3. Ethical Policy
We ensure that all our hotels have a strict “no child labour” policy, and the same goes for our partners, suppliers and affiliates.
We ensure that our hotel reviewers are aware of the cultural and religious customs and beliefs of the country they are visiting.
We ensure the safety of our customers by not offering destinations deemed unsafe by the Foreign and Commonwealth office.
We do not discriminate in any way (apart from getting only the best hotels for our customers!), and will not work with companies that do.
We employ people not on the basis of their sex, creed, race or beliefs, but on the basis of their suitability for the position required.
